Planning to use an eSIM for data during your trip? That’s fantastic! You’ll love staying connected without worrying about roaming fees.
Since a stable Wi-Fi (or data) connection is required to complete the eSIM installation process, we recommend installing the eSIM on your device 1-2 days before your trip. This ensures it’s correctly installed and avoids any potential connection issues. However, it’s important not to activate your eSIM data plan until you reach your destination, or just before, to avoid wasting valuable data plan time.
You must be in the country or region where your data plan is valid in order to connect to the network. (So, if you're still at home, don’t try to activate your vacation data plan because you won’t be able to connect to those networks yet.)
Activating Your eSIM Data Plan doesn’t require a Wi-Fi or data connection. Once you’ve checked your device settings, you can direct your device to use the eSIM for mobile data. In fact, it’s best to turn off Wi-Fi to ensure the eSIM is working properly.
Remember, once your data plan is activated, the countdown to the plan’s expiration begins. So, wait until you arrive at your destination and are ready to use the eSIM before activation.
We hope you have a fantastic trip! If you need any assistance, feel free to contact us.
Activate Your eSIM
The eSIM activation policy will tell you when its validity period begins. There are two types of eSIM activation policies:
- Activation when connected to a supported network.
Most eSIMs will activate once you turn on the eSIM line and connect to a supported network in your destination. After connection, your validity period will start, and you can begin using eSIM data. - Activation upon installation.
Some eSIMs activate immediately after installation, even if you haven’t left your home. For eSIMs with immediate activation, we recommend installing them shortly before your trip to maximize the use of your data.
